go go godzilla...

'With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high-tension wires down...

Oh, no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla
Oh, no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla'

Let's face it... there's a lot of 'nerdiness' going on over at our house, and one of the things that Papa Chron loves to bring home is games!  Lots and lots of games!  Fran loves everything about the games... she loves the strategies, she loves the concepts... she loves WINNING... she loves playing.  Em - well not so much.  Games come home, she looks at them and quite honestly - if they are not attached to an electronic screen, she sniffs and walks away.

This past weekend PChron brought home 'King of Tokyo'.  It's a light-hearted board game, where players 'play mutant monsters, gigantic robots, and other aliens - all of whom are happily whacking each other in a joyous atmosphere in order to become the one and only King of Tokyo.  In order to win the game, one must either destroy Tokyo by accumulating 20 destruction points, or be the only surviving monster once the fighting has ended.'  (via Board Game Geek)

As soon as the game was opened, Fran and dad were deep into Tokyo, while Em watched from the safety of shores of Lake Erie.  Try as they may, there was no getting Em to play.  Ten games passed with promises to play the next day.

Another five games were played on Friday.

And then Saturday, it happened.  Em wanted to play!  She actually wanted to play!  (Not just play with the figures - which are pretty cool - but learn the rules, understand the concepts and follow them!)  She played two games with her sister.  TWO!  okay, so the first one was a learning game... but still... TWO!

These are small moments.  Precious moments.  Ones that we cherish, for they don't happen often - and when they do, I feel like the paparazzi clicking away on my phone or camera just to capture the moment for fear it won't happen again.  But it does, eventually.  And when it does, there I will be with my camera... waiting.

'Oh, no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla
Oh, no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla'

  1. That's awesome! I have a hard time getting my kiddo to sit still long enough to play a game, but we keep trying.
